Theme: "Ephphatha - Be Opened."
Encounter the Spirit • Receive the Fire • Be Sent on Mission
Opening our hearts to the Spirit, our ears to God’s voice, and our lives to His mission.
In the Gospel of Mark (7:34), Jesus says “Ephphatha” when healing a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. At His command, the man’s ears were opened, and his tongue freed.
In our Catholic tradition, Ephphatha is also used in our Baptismal rite, symbolizing a prayer that we may:
Hear the Word of God
Proclaim the faith clearly
Spiritually, Ephphatha is often invoked as a prayer asking God to:
Open our hearts to His grace
Open our ears to His voice
Open our mouths to witness to the Gospel
Jesus speaks this word not only to the deaf man, but to each of us. He calls us to open our ears to God’s voice, our hearts to His grace, and our lives to the mission of love and service.
