    Strategies and Resources for Creating Parish Participation for People with Disabilities

    Event will be held at Hennessey Parish Hall.

  • Event will have two opportunities to attend 30 minutes workshops

    First one at 12:50 p.m. and the Second one at 1:40 p.m.

    Workshops topics will be on:

    - Sacraments and Catechesis 

    Join Beth Potts Ph.D Associate Director Diocesan Relations NCPD and Eneida Scoby Sacramental Life, Catechesis and Faith Formation Diocese of Phoenix, this workshop will explore how sacraments and catechesis can welcome persons with disabilities. 

    - Inclusive Liturgies: Full and Active Participation for All

    Join Alyssa Yingling, Manager of Liturgical Events and Formation for the Office of Worship and Liturgy, Diocese of Phoenix, on this overview of how parishes can welcome, include, and foster full and active participation in the liturgy for everyone. We will be looking at small changes that parishes can make that will have a major impact on people's ability to participate in the liturgy. This breakout session will cover tips and resources for accommodating the hearing, vision and mobility impaired as well as those with sensory, intellectual and developmental needs. 

    - Encountering people with disabilities in our parish communities:

    Join Marina Salvador-Velasquez, Manager of Office of Respect Life Ministry Diocese of Phoenix, this workshop will help you to recognize and encounter people with disabilities in our parish communities. You will also hear some practical ways on how we can be more supportive, and advocates for them and their loved ones from the lens of respect life and human dignity.


    - Adaptive Catechesis for Youth and Young Adults: with Autism/IDD

    Join Suzanne Oliver, MT-BC, NMT Fellow, Founder and Executive Director of Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona (NMTSA, and a catechist at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, and Gail Ratti Curran, M.A., Special Educator and Family Support Specialist at the Foundation for Blind Children, and a catechist for individuals with special needs, as they offer ideas for developing an adaptive catechesis program for youth and young adults in your parish. Suzanne will highlight specific methods to use when serving persons with autism. Gail will explain meaningful components of programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

    - Becoming a Catalyst for Community Resources:  The Matthew 19:14 Project, Accompanying Catholic Schools in Becoming a Place Where ALL Students Belong

    Join Jim Pogge Executive Director of The Matthew 19:14 Project and Crysal Brooks, Ed.S., CCC/SLP Co-Owner of Inclusion Solutions, LLC. The Matthew 19:14 Project partners with Catholic schools to strengthen inclusive practices for students with disabilities and enrich communities of belonging. Learn how this non-profit organization supports school leaders, educators, parents, and students throughout the diocese.
