All servers will be trained according to the standards set for Diocesan and episcopal liturgies by the Office of Worship Masters of Ceremonies. These may be different than the way of doing things set by your pastor.
Servers from all ethnic communities are welcome and encouraged to participate.
All instructions and communications related to serving will be made in English with occasional translations if necessary.
Both men and women may serve.
All servers commit to getting themselves to and from all rehearsals and liturgies.
All servers commit to being respectful and kind to their fellow servers.
All servers commit to following Safe Environment guidelines for interactions with minors and vulnerable adults.
A Diocesan altar server must be prepared to receive the Blessed Sacrament at a Mass they are serving and therefore must be free from impediments from reception of Holy Communion.
Altar servers will wear albs. Diocesan [Office of Worship] Master of Ceremonies will wear black cassock with a cream / ecru surplice with a simple design. The Office of Worship will order vesture for you. Black dress shoes will be worn for all liturgies.
Active altar servers are expected to serve at least three times a year and to attend annual formation days.
No tattoos or piercings except for ears are to be visible when vested. Hair color should be of a natural looking shade and not distracting.
The number of Diocesan Altar Servers is capped to allow those in formation for the diaconate and priesthood to also have regular service opportunities. Acceptance into the program is for one year and continued service will be subject to mutual discernment every June.
